My research interests revolve around “In/Out Group Communication” – how people within a group (a workplace, a racial classification, a social organization) communicate with one another vs. how they communicate with those outside their circle.  I am particularly interested in the concept of “Diversity” and how it is understood and operationalized in the academy.  I’m in the Relating and Organizing track, but Rhetorical studies will also play a big part in my future research.

I grew up in Michigan, and received my B.A. from Michigan State University, an M.B.A. from Lake Superior State University, and started my communication studies in the M.A. program at Central Michigan University.  I worked for a number of years in the banking industry before returning to school full-time. I love everything about the academic life and can’t imagine a better way to spend my time than learning and teaching.
