Travel Directions

If coming from the Columbus or Parkersburg areas you will want to take US33 to the SR682 exit (the exit designated as the Ohio University exit).  At the intersection of SR682 and Richland Ave, Turn right (North) to cross the Hocking River bridge (you will see Peden Stadium, the Convocation Center, and most of campus on the other side of the river).  Follow these directions once you leave SR682:

  1. Immediately after crossing the Hocking River, turn left onto Shafer.  You will follow Shafer past the Convocation Center, Baseball Stadium, and Soccer and Field Hockey locations.  Shafer will come to a stoplight at the intersection with West Union.
  2. Turn right onto West Union.  Follow Union for approximately 2.5 blocks.  Once you see the Union Street Diner on the left side of the street you can park anywhere on the street (meters take quarters and dimes).
  3. Lasher is across from Bromley Hall, the very tall building at the top of the hill.  Lasher is located where West Union curves to meet the intersection with Richland Ave.

If coming from the Cinncinnati area or generally using US50 to reach Athens, you should take the Richland Avenue exit (going one more exit will allow you to take SR682 as well).  You will follow Richland for approximately 1.5miles before reaching the Hocking River bridge. Once you reach the bridge, follow the numbered directions above.

You will notice that you basically drive clockwise around the west part of campus to go from the Hocking River bridge to Lasher Hall.  Because of one-way streets in "Uptown" Athens, the Schafer route is easiest.

If you plan to book airline tickets to visit Athens, the most commonly used airport is Port Columbus International (CMH).  Other options (close but with more limited flight schedules) include: Columbus Rickenbacker International (LCK), Parkersburg/Wood County WV (PKB), and Charleston WV (CRW).  More distant, yest still reasonable options include Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and Akron.

There are a variety of hotels in Athens including the OU Inn, a Holiday Inn Express, and a Hampton Inn and Suites.
