Ohio University Forensics Team

Welcome to the Ohio University Forensics Team Page!  We are excited to share our love of competitive collegiate speech and debate.

Ohio University has a long history of forensics commitment.  The first on campus debate occurred in 1811, and in the nearly 200 years since, the team continues to flourish.  Ohio University prides itself on being one of the founding members of the National Forensics Association and is one of only two institutions to have attended every NFA national tournament since its inception in 1970.  The current team is led by the John A. Cassese Director of Forensics, Dan West.  Dan has directed six national team championships and 44 individual national championships in his 20 years of coaching.

The 2009-2010 Speaking Bobcats are once again Pi Kappa Delta NATIONAL CHAMPIONS, claiming top honors for PKD division and overall team sweepstakes.  Junior Ted Dacey claimed the first national championship of the season by winning Persuasion at the PKD National Comprehensive Tournament.  On the heels of their success at PKD, the Speaking Bobcats placed 12th at the AFA National Individual Events Tournament (AFA-NIET) as a team.  Senior Dan Glaser won a National Championship in Impromptu Speaking.

And the successes keep coming.  For the first time in 30 years, the Speaking Bobcats are once again ranked in the Top Five at the NFA National Tournament.  Ohio University finished in 4th place at the NFA National Tournament held on Ohio's campus.  Leading the way was senior Dan Glaser who claimed the National Championship in Poetry Interpretation as well as runner-up honors in both Persuasive Speaking and Impromptu Speaking and a fourth place finish in Rhetorical Criticism.  Dan Glaser was also named the National Champion in Pentathlon, making him the top speaker in the nation!  Congratulations to all of the Speaking Bobcats for their recent successes.

**A Special THANK YOU goes out to all of the Speaking Bobcat Alumni that were able to return to campus for the 40th Annual NFA National Tournament.  Not only were former and current Bobcats able to interact face-to-face, but the tournament was that much better by your presence back in Athens.  Special Thank Yous go out to John Gibbons and Erin Gallagher Barnhart for coordinating the Alumni Events on campus.  A copy of our Alumni Booklet listing Ohio's successes at NFA has been posted under the Team Schedule and Results tab.  If there are errors or omissions, please let us know so that we can correct them.**
