Joe Bianco is an Assistant Professor of Social and Behavioral Medicine in the Department of Social Medicine at Ohio University.

He holds a doctorate in clinical psychology from Columbia University and a postdoctoral specialization in clinical health psychology from Ohio University.

His clinical work focuses on narrative-based therapies for trauma and other mental health disorders.

He currently teaches child psychiatry and addiction medicine and is the Instructor of Record for the Addiction, Pain, and Palliative Care block at OU-HCOM. He also teaches an honors tutorial in Narrative, Psychotherapy, and the Construction of Life stories through the English Department.

His research focuses on behavioral health interventions in primary care; the effects of childhood trauma on adult health; and psychotherapy process/outcome. He (with Tracy Marx, DO) recently received funding from Ohio’s MEDTAPP Healthcare Access Initiative to create a Trauma-Informed Primary Care training program for medical residents and interns in Athens.
