Stephanie Ruhl

Prior to my graduate education at Western Michigan University, I worked as community relations specialist at a large community health system. During this time, I developed a patient advocacy program that involved community members in organizational development projects, coordinated several community outreach initiatives, and participated in the planning and opening of a heart center, multi-specialty center, and community hospice home. These experiences, engagement in my community, and recent familial health challenges, have revealed real societal needs for which I am passionate and committed.

To date, my research and teaching interests have included communication in health organizations, interpersonal communication, risk and crisis communication, and community engagement. I look forward to future opportunities to integrate my knowledge of health and organizational research with special attention to vulnerable populations and social justice.
